When someone mentions stone countertops, you might imagine a master stonemason with decades of experience heading up the installation crew. It is true that fabricating modern stone countertops requires a tremendous amount of skill and years of practice. But it’s not just about physically manipulating stone. Modern countertop fabricating is actually pretty high-tech.
We maintain a state-of-the-art fabrication center outfitted with some of the best technology in the business. If it weren’t for the high-tech tools we rely on, our skilled technicians would be a lot less efficient. They would still get the job done, but their work would take longer and require considerably more manual effort.
Modern technology allows us to fabricate world-class stone countertops with exacting precision. And we can do it efficiently, safely, and cost-effectively. Below is a brief sampling of some of the tools we use.
1. Digital Templating Tools
Templates are the key to fabricating stone countertops with precision. Modern technology allows us to handle templating digital. With a combination of precise digital measuring tools and software, we can create exact templates of any kitchen or bathroom.
Digital templating allows us to capture the exact placement of every wall, appliance, and sink. The result is the ability to precisely cut stone slabs so that they fit perfectly. In the old days, templating was a manual exercise. Today, digital tools make it so much easier.
It’s worth noting that we also use layout and inspection software following the templating process. The software essentially acts as a digital layout tool that allows us to optimize slab placement. We can create a more attractive veining presentation and minimize seam visibility.
2. Advanced Sawjets
Cutting granite, marble, and quartzite isn’t easy. You need a tough saw with an extremely tough blade. We utilize the most advanced sawjets in the industry. These high-tech machines combine a diamond cutting blade with a high-pressure water jet to achieve precise and clean cuts.
Even with the hardest stone materials, the right sawjet gets the job done with ease. From straight cuts to mitered angles, they are the right tools for shaping stone slabs exactly how we want them.
3. CNC Routers
While sawjets are designed to make primary cuts, we rely on CNC routers to create edges and finishes. We use several advanced machines that are computer controlled for detailed profiling, cutouts, and finishing. Best of all, a small team of high-volume production specialists can manage our entire army of CNC routers.
Computer control guarantees that the routers produce consistent and accurate results with every slab. And with the right configuration, routers can handle multiple slabs simultaneously. The routers really make a difference with a countertop’s finishing touches.
4. Automated Polishing Equipment
The technology rolls on with automated polishing equipment that creates an incredible finish on every slab. Slabs are polished to a customer’s desired finish using a state-of-the-art machine that creates uniform, flawless surfaces every time.
Technological innovation has truly changed the way stone countertops are fabricated. What used to be a labor-intensive process requiring a level of precision that few craftsmen possessed has been perfected by digital technologies. It’s truly amazing to stand back and watch what happens in our fabrication center on a daily basis.
