Modern Farmhouse Might Be Out, But White Quartzite Isn’t

Design styles come and go, don’t they? They sure do. Unfortunately, that means homeowners who love the modern farmhouse look are gradually becoming a minority. What was once the premiere design style is on its way out. But here’s something to consider – white quartzite countertops are still a fantastic option even if you are reducing the whites in your kitchen.

White is the primary color in modern farmhouse design. It’s built in. Modern farmhouse design is rooted in the history of the turn-of-the-century American farmhouse circa the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a time during which farmers didn’t have the luxury of decorating their homes with ornate furnishings and expensive paints and wallpapers. Whitewash was the wall covering of the day.

Big, Wide-Open Spaces

Although we are not interior design experts here at Bedrock Quartz, we suspect part of the appeal of the modern farmhouse design trend was that it lent itself well to creating spaces that felt big and wide open. Light colors do that. White does it especially well. And that takes us back to white quartzite as a countertop choice.

Visually speaking, a well-polished slab of white quartzite is stunning. Some people say it rivals the finest quartz and marble. We have had customers who actually prefer quartzite over the other two. Nonetheless, white quartzite reflects light rather than absorbing it. It can do amazing things with both natural and artificial light to make a kitchen look a lot bigger than it really is.

Perhaps modern farmhouse style is on its way out. Maybe you want more color in your walls along with more modern furnishings and appliances. All that stuff is great. You don’t have to completely give up on white, though. Even with darker cabinets and a color-rich tile or natural stone floor, white quartzite can pull it all together with an elegant beauty that is unmatched by any other stone.

White Quartzite With Wood

We have done some looking around and discovered some pretty impressive kitchens featuring white quartzite countertops. Some of them make judicious use of just enough wood to create an interesting contrast. We’re thinking of using a light wood for the floor and a darker wood for the cabinets. Normally, designers wouldn’t suggest such a contrast between two types of wood. But white quartzite brings them both together.

One of the best things about white quartzite is that it works with just about every design style. From modern minimalism to the most classic and traditional design styles, you can find a place for white quartzite. Seriously. Take a look at it if you’ve never considered quartzite as a countertop surface before.

It’s a Tough Stone

If you are worried about whether quartzite can stand up to the punishment your kitchen delivers, put that idea out of your mind right now. Quartzite is a metamorphic rock that is actually harder than granite. It is extremely durable and requires minimal maintenance.

Quartzite does require regular sealing to maintain its appearance. You should also clean quartzite only with pH-neutral cleaning products. Even so, it resists stains, heat, scratches, chips, and etching. It is one of the best natural stones for heavy-use kitchens.Modern farmhouse design has peaked. It is now starting to fade as a design preference. And with it, homeowners are getting away from white. But don’t let that stop you from considering white quartzite as your countertop surface. White quartzite goes with just about any design style. It works equally well with both modern and classic designs. So you don’t have to get rid of all the white after all.
