How to Ensure Your New Countertops Remain the Center of Attention

Have you ever found yourself in the position of showcasing a home improvement project only to discover that it is no longer the center of attention six months down the road? If things are really bad, you might discover that no one really cares anymore. How disappointing is that? Pretty disappointing, which is why we would hate to see that happen with your new Bedrock Quartz countertops.

Stone and quartz countertops are visually stunning regardless of the product you might choose. They grab your attention and hold it. They are so beautiful that they demand to be the centerpiece of the kitchen. But sometimes that isn’t the case.

Unfortunately, life can step in and diminish the aesthetic appeal of granite, marble, quartzite, and quartz. But if you are willing to put in a little bit of effort, it doesn’t have to. You can ensure that your countertops remain the center of attention – at least in the kitchen.

Keep Them Clean

Guaranteeing your new countertops remain under the spotlight starts with keeping them clean. Wipe them down after every use just so there aren’t any crumbs or food particles left behind. Likewise, do not leave food packages lying around. Discard them right away.

If you should spill something, clean it up immediately. Even with high quality sealers, stone countertops are susceptible to staining from highly acidic foods. Wine, tomato sauce, and other similar foods can quickly leave stains behind if you don’t clean up spills immediately.

Use Trivets and Potholders

Heat is a big enemy of natural stone and quartz countertops. Quartz handles it best, but even it is not impervious to heat when exposed for a long time. Here is the best way to prevent damaging your gorgeous new countertops with hot pots and pans: use trivets and potholders.

A trivet prevents direct contact between a hot pan and the countertop service underneath. Likewise for a potholder, but a potholder will also absorb and disperse heat. A trivet will still allow heat to deflect off the counter surface.

Use Cutting Boards

Trivets and potholders will protect against hot pots and pans. But your new countertops also need to be protected against knives and other sharp utensils. The best tool for that is a cutting board.

All sorts of plastic cutting boards are available at department stores, grocery stores, and online. But for the sake of your countertop’s finish, we recommend wood or glass. A wood butcher block-type cutting board is a great choice because it offers enough depth to keep knives safely away from the counter surface. At the same time, a wood board with a smooth finish will not scratch the countertop.

Reseal as Needed

Quartz countertops never need resealing. But if your counters are marble, granite, or quartzite, do them a favor and reseal them as needed. Check with your installer or manufacturer to learn how often you should tackle this project. As long as you reseal on schedule, your countertops will enjoy maximum protection.

Get Rid of the Clutter

Finally, don’t go to the trouble of doing all these things only to then cover your countertops with clutter. Clutter not only prevents your countertops from being the center of attention, but it also becomes the center of attention instead.

Let your kitchen countertops be countertops. Do not use them as long-term storage for everything and anything that doesn’t have another place. If you eliminate the clutter and follow the rest of the tips in this post, your new countertops will be the centerpiece of your kitchen for years to come.
