Your Kitchen Might Be Telling You It’s Time for New Countertops

Some Bedrock Quartz customers have chosen to install new kitchen countertops because they want a change. Others are remodeling the kitchen. But then there are others who come to us because they feel they have no other choice. They have looked around the kitchen and determined that new countertops are no longer an option.

Are you finding yourself in that position? If you feel like you need new countertops but are not sure, take a look around. Your kitchen might actually be telling you that it is time to make the move.

Plenty of Chips and Cracks

Kitchens can speak a lot of things in many different ways. Take chips and cracks in kitchen countertops. They are to be expected over many decades of service. But the more chips and cracks you see, the more evident it is that you need replacements.

Cracks will only get worse if they are not addressed. And if you have too many of them, repairing them may be more expensive than replacement. Of course, cracked and chipped edges can be hazardous as well. Sharp edges can cut while cracks on the edges can harbor bacteria.

Visible Wear and Tear

Although some types of visible wear and tear are merely cosmetic, others are indications that new countertops are in order. If you have laminated countertops, delamination is a sure sign that something is amiss. One or two spots can be repaired, but if you are noticing delamination across wider areas of a countertop’s space, repairing just isn’t practical.

Another big issue is the burn mark. There really is no way to effectively deal with burn marks in laminates. They can be dealt with in wood, but you need to consider the practical aspects of doing so. A large number of burn marks is a sign that it’s time for new kitchen countertops.

Stubborn Stains That Won’t Go Away

Sometimes a kitchen will speak by way of stubborn stains that just won’t go away. A homeowner tries every trick in the book, but the stains persist. Of course, stains are an aesthetic issue. They don’t affect the physical functioning of a countertop. But stains are also ugly. They can detract from your overall enjoyment of the kitchen.

New kitchen countertops eliminate the stains. And if you go with something like quartz, you get a surface that is more resistant to stains in the future.

Poor Craftsmanship

Your kitchen might be fairly new but still showing signs of trouble. Consider a home built within the last ten years that is now showing signs of poor craftsmanship. In the kitchen, cabinets and countertops are pulling away from the walls. Seams are starting to separate. The homeowner could be facing some serious repair costs.

The thing about poor craftsmanship in the kitchen is that it is difficult to address without spending a lot of money. Specifically where countertops are concerned, is poor craftsmanship even worth repairing? That depends on the types of problems a homeowner is observing. If the quality of the craftsmanship is profoundly poor, full replacement might be better from a financial standpoint.
